MISTER BROWN’S / BARBER + SHOP + SOCIAL

It’s not just a haircut, it’s an experience.

Located in the heart of North Park in San Diego, California, you will find quite the genuine soul and a great family man in the person of Lee Brown.  Lee is the creator and owner of Mister Brown’s Barbershop and Social.  Mister Brown’s Barbershop and Social is aesthetically adorned with a rustic vintage look and feel, a touch of modern masculinity, which all comprise an experience of style, great service and immeasurable hospitality.

With honor, I had the opportunity to talk to Lee about his life, the shop and his future state of vision.   It goes without saying that Lee is a visionary in his own right and is one who executes success well.  Lee is a native of London, England.  He moved to the United States at the age of sixteen years old. He and his parents moved to Palm Beach, Florida.   His parents still currently reside there.  He attended high school in Jupiter, Florida and eventually attended college at Florida State University.  He then migrated to San Francisco where he attended fashion school.

In the past, Lee has worked for the world-renowned fashion designer Giorgio Armani and for the American entrepreneur, hotelier and real estate developer, Ian Schrager.

Currently, Lee is an Image Consultant and writes regular blogs about fashion and style.

Being a former wardrobe stylist and working in the fashion industry, I wanted to know what sparked the interest in creating and opening a barbershop.  Lee replied, “While living in New York, some friends of mine opened a barbershop.  It was just below my apartment.  I was intrigued by the happenings of the shop, the lifestyle, and the way men communicated within the shop.  They looked like they were having so much fun.  The barbershop had something cool. I said to myself, I wished I had something like this.  This resonated with me. When I moved to San Diego, that vision came back to me and I decided to open a barbershop.”

Lee spent time doing research, which included visiting other barbershops in the area and surrounding cities to see what they were doing.  Lee explains, “I wanted to recreate an old school shop.  I conceptualized the shop before its creation.  The shop is adorned with one-hundred-year-old barber chairs.  I wanted to raise the bar in terms of design.  Previously working for Ian Schrager was a huge influence on my design concept.”

“I wanted to raise the bar in terms of design.”

Mister Brown’s has been open for six years.   The barbershop originally started out with two chairs and currently has progressed into a very successful barbershop.  When asked if there are plans to have another location, Lee says, “We are currently looking for another location to have a second shop.  We are looking to expand.  It will be here in San Diego.  Ultimately, I want to franchise Mister Brown’s Barbershop and Social.”

Mister Brown’s has services that include haircuts, beard trims and shaves.  According to Lee, “We are starting to do facials and grey coverage for beards and the hair.”

“We want to impact you from the moment you walk in, to the moment you leave.”

Lee is very proud of the Mister Brown’s experience.   To him, customer service is at the forefront of the business.  He explains, “We are known for our customer service.  I feel like we are above the rest in the area of customer service.   At Mister Brown’s, you will be treated the same way, every single time.  The level of expertise of the barbers is amazing.  Service is by far the number one thing for me.  We want to impact you from the moment you walk in, to the moment you leave.”

If you are ever in the San Diego, California area and you need a haircut or a grooming service, please stop by Mister Brown’s Barbershop and Social.   You will not be disappointed.
